Rock Sugar set for festival gig ~ Chicago Sun-Times
April 30, 2010
Billed as “the world’s first pop/metal mash-up band,” Internet
sensation Rock Sugar is part of the 20-band lineup at Melodic Rock Fest 2
this weekend at The Roadhouse, 200 Prairie St. in Elgin.
The three-day festival (tonight’s show is a special, $175-ticket VIP
acoustic series of performances) features a bevy of local and national
heavy metal rockers, including Alias, Mecca, Rob Lamothe, Goodbye
Thrill, Pride of Lions, 7th Heaven and Talon.
Rock Sugar combines ’80s heavy metal with ’80s pop classics for
something completely different and yet totally familiar, dude. The band
has generated more than 700,000 hits on YouTube and has released its
debut disc, “Reimaginator,” featuring Rock Sugar’s unique spin on
classic rock hits. The band will perform two acoustic sets tonight and a
full-out concert at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets for the weekend festival are $55-$100. For tickets (also
available at the door) and more information, visit www.melodicfest.com
or www.roadhouseelgin.com. Doors open at noon on Saturday and
Sunday.
